Education & Outreach

FOC personnel and volunteers educate people of all ages about the Cheat River watershed, the work of FOC, and the importance of environmental stewardship.  We educate children about aquatic insects, present at community events, facilitate interpretive trails, and provide training and support for a variety of volunteer activities related to the health of our environment, particularly our water.

OSM/VISTA David Manthos demonstrates sampling for aquatic benthic macroinvertebrates (stream bugs) to children at the 2012 DelFest in Cumberland, Maryland.

Our personnel frequently interact with the public in an education and outreach capacity, from 4H camp to community meetings on pressing current events, but we also work to provide permanent education opportunities that citizens and visitors and interact with on their own time including the River of Promise Trail and Doug Ferris Outdoor Classroom.
