The morning of the Cheat River Music Festival starts with a 5K run that attracts athletes, walkers and families from West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and beyond. The funds raised support the general operations budget of FOC, helping us to carry out the parts of our mission that cannot be covered by grants. Runners start and finish at the Preston County Country Club, cruising along the gently rolling course through the grounds of the golf course, the rhododendron lined banks of Buffalo Creek, and along the mighty Cheat River.
Racer Perks: Along with a beautiful run that promotes a healthy lifestyle, all runners will receive free admission to the Festival, and the first 100 registered runners receive a free Cheat Fest 5K shirt. Refreshments are provided by a generous donation from the Kingwood Wal-Mart.

Event results will be posted on Active.com and our timing service is provided by Miles of Smiles.

Overall male and female winners will receive a commemorative plate, which can be used as a wind chime to hang awards.
Awards for male, female, and age category winners are unique ceramic medallions created by a local artist and stained with an iron oxide underglaze extracted from Acid Mine Drainage. These awards uniquely showcase an innovative way to use a by-product of the pollution we work so hard to correct.
Volunteer registrations for the 5k are closed, but there are still opportunities and perks to volunteering at the Festival available. Click here: Cheat Fest Volunteering
