April 24, 25, & 26, West Virginia Rail-Trail Sojourn. The 2015 sojourn in West Virginia will center on the city of Morgantown, home to West Virginia University and the burgeoning Mon River Trails system, 48 miles of rail-trail in the north central part of the state, connecting Marion, Monongalia and Preston counties. On Sunday the 26th, riders will cruise the Deckers Creek trail into Preston County. Register here.

Get your weekend started early at the downtown Black Bear Burritos location for live music by nationally-renowned musicians The Josh Daniel/Mark Schimick Project! Our buds from Black Bear will feature Cheat-inspired food & drink specials, prize raffles, and an early opportunity to purchase Cheat Fest merchandise. Two musical sets: 6-8pm & 9-11pm. No cover but donations to FOC are strongly encouraged.

May 22 – 24, Memorial Day Weekend, Friends of the Cheat @ DelFest’s Kidzone, Cumberland, MD. Join FOC for three, environmental education workshops at the Kidzone during the 7th annual DelFest in Cumberland, MD. All Kidzone workshops are free to festivarian families. The Kidzone is not childcare.

June 5 -6, Harpers Ferry Outdoor Festival, Harpers Ferry. This annual festival is held to raise awareness and money for river and environmental conservation. Held at the Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship, proceeds benefit conservation groups including FOC. Three races are also held in conjunction with the festival including the Tim Gavin Down River Race. FOC hopes to see you there!
Saturday, June 6, Upper Cheat River Water Trail Paddling Party – National Trails Day, St. George. Float the Upper Cheat River Water Trail from Holly Meadows to St. George in celebration of National Trails Day. Join the paddling after-party at Blackwater Outdoor Adventures’ take-out around 4pm. Live music, refreshments, and plenty of friends to share your big fish stories with around the campfire. Meet at BOA at 10am to conserve parking spaces and get a free shuttle to the put-in. June 19 – 20, Ragnar Appalachians Trail Race, Big Bear Lake, Hazelton. Join Friends of the Cheat’s volunteer team at the east’s most challenging trail race hosted by Ragnar Trail Relays. Teams of 4 and 8 will run a total of 120 miles on three rugged loops around Big Bear Lake. For each 4-5 hour volunteer shift filled by FOC, FOC will earn a $60 donation! Help with parking and team registration Friday and Saturday. You don’t have to be a runner to appreciate this epic event—over 275 teams are expected in this event’s second year.
